The engagement with Sunanda

As mentioned in the last blog I came to know about the marriage proposal only after getting a letter alongwith photograph from Jalgaon. I could make out from the photograph that she would possibly have been my choice if I was asked to choose amongst the three girls serving us dinner. I conveyed my consent to my parents which they officially conveyed to Jalgaon. There is prevailing procedure of "Pakkayat" sending a token sum of money to the boy's parents to confirm the relationship. The amount used to be Rs.11/- in old days it went on increasing day by day and my father-in-law also exeeded the prescribed amount a little hit by sending Rs.501/- as Pakkayat. I came to know about this engagement by a letter from my father later on. It was somewhere in the end of 1978 and with an understanding for the marriage to be taking place in summers of 1979.
